Information for Students and Guests
Convocation is a unique ceremony that balances formality with celebration. MITT provides the following guidelines to help ensure you and your guest have a memorable experience.
Download the Guidelines for Students and Guests, a summary of key information for Convocation.
Communication
Our primary method of communication with students is through email. Students are encouraged to review and update their personal email and mailing addresses in their Student Portal Account.
Students will receive by email:
- Save the date information (approximately 3 months prior to ceremony date)
- Gown rental and ceremony registration instructions (approximately 6 weeks prior to ceremony date)
- Ceremony guidelines for students and guests (a few days before ceremony date)
If you have questions, please email grad@mitt.ca.
Gown rental and Convocation registration
Your gown rental serves as your convocation registration. All graduates participating in a ceremony are required to rent and wear academic attire (gown, vee-stole/hood, cap, and tassel). You may keep your graduation cap and tassel.
Gown rental costs and rental deadline: $56.50 plus tax
On-site gown rental fee: $90.00 including tax
To start your gown rental, you need to know:
- your student number 00000xxxxxx
- your payment method. Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard, or Discover are accepted
- the number of guests attending with you
- the gown rental option indicated in the email you received from MITT
Graduation Photos
Lifetouch is the photography provider for MITT’s convocation. Graduates have the opportunity to have graduation portraits taken on site and purchase a photo of themselves crossing the stage.
On the day of convocation, if you want photos, you will need to provide your contact information and mailing information to Lifetouch using the QR code they will have on site. The QR code will be located at the Lifetouch tables in the lobby and gowning area.
If you already know what you want for photos, you can provide your contact information ahead of time along with what you plan to purchase by using the QR code below.
At convocation, connect with a Lifetouch representative at one of the tables to confirm your order and make your payment.
You must complete the payment the day of convocation for your order to proceed.
Portraits
Lifetouch will set up a portrait studio in the gowning area at convocation and will take graduation photos on request. Please arrive early if you want to have your photo taken. The wait can be long, and Lifetouch stops taking photos 30 minutes before the ceremony starts.
You will be responsible for providing your contact information, mailing address, and a $15 sitting fee at convocation. Lifetouch accepts cash, debit, or credit cards on site.
Four images will be taken, and proofs will be mailed directly to the address you provided. Proofs will be mailed out the first week of July though Canada Post. You will purchase photos directly from Lifetouch and you have one year to place your order. If you have any questions about your portrait, please contact Lifetouch at 1-866-457-8212.
Crossing the Stage Photo
Every graduate crossing the stage will have their photo taken. You have the opportunity to purchase this photo if you choose. To purchase this photo, please visit the Lifetouch table located in the lobby.
These photos can only be purchased the day of convocation, and Lifetouch will not accept orders after June 13. Lifetouch accepts cash, debit, or credit cards on site.
There are two options for crossing the stage photos:
- $20 digital print emailed to the email address you provide.
- $40 for four 5x7 prints. These will be mailed to the address you provide.
There are no proofs for crossing the stage photos.
Graduate Awards
An integral part of convocation is recognizing graduates who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in both theoretical and practical skills during their studies. For more information, visit our MITT Graduate Awards webpage.
